What lands in the workbook

  • Typed cells, not a wall of text. Numbers arrive as numbers you can sum, booleans as TRUE/FALSE, dates as real dates you can sort and filter.
  • Nested objects become dotted columns. {"user":{"name":"Ana"}} becomes a column headed user.name.
  • The header row is bold and filtered. The first row is styled and an autofilter is applied, so the file is usable the moment it opens.
  • Ids survive. A long numeric id stays text instead of being rounded away by Excel’s 15-digit limit — the classic way an export quietly corrupts every record.
  • Uneven records line up. Objects missing a key get an empty cell in that column rather than a shift.
  • No macros, no links. The file is plain data: nothing to enable, nothing that prompts a security warning on open.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. This page has no server side: the file is read and written back by JavaScript running on your own machine. You can check it by opening the page, disconnecting from the network, and converting a file anyway.

The equivalent in Excel

Data → Get Data → From File → From JSON opens Power Query, where each nested level has to be expanded by hand before you can load it to a sheet. It works, but it is several minutes of clicking per file and has to be redone for every new export.
